Stopping in tonight?
Stuck for something to do?
Back in the early 90s, some bright spark had the idea of making a board game based on going to raves. Apparently, this caused such a furore that it was soon banned, or so the legend goes. I’m sure I’ve got one of these stashed away somewhere. Or maybe I imagined it. The mind plays tricks when you get to our age.

We don’t normally talk about modern music or other people’s blogs here at Acid Grandads, on account of us being curmudgeonly old buggers. However, we think that the new blog from Scando-warrior Todd Terje is pretty funny and worth a read if you’re into old synths and stuff.

The Japanese machines that created house music.
By Henrik Zelizi
Do you remember Inner City’s track Big Fun? That was in 1988 and the very beginning of what we now call house music. Producer Kevin Saunderson used only two Roland drum machines. Add a couple of synths and the lovely vocals of Paris Grey and you have a number one hit and sell six million copies. Inner City instantly became a name known worldwide.
In contrast, it would be...

Did someone say something about a reunion?
I’d like to say that it was the best day of my life, but I can’t because it wasn’t. I’d seen them at Leicester Uni a good six months previously, before the album really took off and the world then went Manchester bonkers. That was a good gig.
But Ally Pally? No. A massive schlep from home turf to stand in a big hall with...

“On October the 8th 1988 we organised the first illegal rave in the North West called “Sweat it out”. Located in a deserted warehouse on the outskirts of central Manchester, everyone who was anyone was there. Despite the lack of any photographic evidence the resulting chaos has gone down in folk-lore. Only the 1000 odd people who attended now know the true meaning of what it...

…Only this time it’s looking back to 20 years ago.
It wasn’t all as ‘bad & evil’ as some editors were trying to convince you it was at the time. I mean, doctoring the photos to make people look ‘out of it’, despicable behaviour. Will they ever learn to just stick to the truth?
