From the Acid Grandad’s archives - cutting from the NME 1990 detailing the decision by GMP and God’s Cop to oppose the licence renewal for the Hacienda. Through good times and bad…

Promotional postcard of the day #1. First in a series of 1, probably. Not sure how this promo postcard for Tom Tom Clubs 1988 LP “Boom boom chi boom boom” came to be in the shoebox of stuff that is under the bed, here at our sheltered accommodation. Anyway, it looks nice.

Following our recent posts of press cuttings about a rave under a motorway bridge in Wakefield that was raided by police and resulted in 230 arrests, Simon from the blog ‘Strobe struck’ has been in contact with the full story. Simon was actually there and gives a full account of the events on the blog, which can be found on the link below:

Mixmag Tour Flyer - June 1991.

From the ‘stuff we found on the internet’ series #1

Flyer of the day #2 - Sindrome at Shelley’s Laserdome, Longton, Stoke. Check out the reference to “History of House - all the old jackers and trancers show more recent people how to do it”. This flyer is from 1990!

Flyer of the day - Saturday nights at the Hacienda with Nick Arrojo and guests. When things got heavy on Fridays, we took a short sabbatical at Shaboo in Blackpool before returning home to Whitworth Street west for Saturday nights.

Flyer of the day - Club Havana, Middlesbrough, 1991. Where the beat meets the elite. Cheesy.

The British Design 1948-2012 exhibition at the V&A is showcasing British design from the 1948 Olympic year until now. The show features original parts from the Ben Kelly designed Hacienda, including the Kim Philby neon shown above.

From Freaky Dancing, the house magazine of the Hacienda queue (I can’t even be arsed to ask if we asked you whether we’d mentioned that we use to go there). Facking students.

Flyer of the day - Mid-week mayhem from Nipper and Dave Dunne.

…and the law won.
An Acid Grandads public anouncement!

It’s not a big secret that we are close friends with the good people over at Proper magazine and have, on occasion, done a bit of writing for them. They’ve decided to put on a party in Manchester, primarily to bring a couple of their favourite DJs ‘oop nurth’. Details as follows:

The good gents of Proper Magazine bring you a night of the finest music in an intimate venue in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. We’ve managed to secure the services of two of London’s finest DJs in Steve Lee and Graeme Fisher, who play the best of balearic/slo mo/cosmic disco/leftfield/deck-shoe-rave-gaze/acid house at their Balearica night in London Fields (yes, that really is a place). Steve and Graeme will be more than ably supported by friends of the mag, Chris Murray and Scott Rapson.
Tickets are now on sale via the Proper Magazine website.

Flyer of the day - Flying at Venus, 1990. We loved these parties. It was the beginning of a new era in nightclubbing. People getting on coaches and visiting people of a similar nature in different towns. It went off. The Flying crowd were ace - I remember Brandon finishing off upstairs and some cockney bird screaming “play us an uvva one Brandon, or we’ll torch the facking gaff”.
And who the fuck is Justin Robinson?

Seeing as we’ve pilfered the above pic from the Resident Advisor article “Boy’s Own: A History”, then it only seems fair to credit the source. Actually, it’s a good read, if you’re interested in early Acid House goings-on and beyond.

More random stuff thrust into our hands on exiting nightclubs in the early 90s. This time an A4 flyer for soul and rare groove night in Moss Side.
Do not adjust your set. It looks like it came out of the photocopier like that.
